How do you choose a good career?

I am a chaotically organized person. This means that I prefer creative chaos in work, but I always try to make a plan of my future actions. Sometimes (more often than I would prefer) these plans become unusable due to the change of circumstances. So, I eventually came to a thought that maybe all those plans are simply a waist of my time. Of course, everyone keeps saying that a plan is a necessary part of success, but history has known many cases when majority was wrong. If a life is too dynamic to be predicted, maybe it is better to follow the flow and not to plan anything ahead ? Let's take a look at several examples.
